Design a luminaire that guides you past roadworks
A majority of all cycling accidents linked to roadworks are caused by the cyclist falling off when encountering unexpected obstacles on the road. The cycle paths are often poorly lit during roadworks, making it potentially dangerous to bike there during the night. I wanted to find a solution to safely guide cyclists past every obstruction, using a single LED.
Parallel to sketching, I made several quick paper mockups which gave me a better understanding of how light behaves and how to create an efficient illumination. The final prototype is made out of a 2 mm carton and spreads the light evenly and efficiently, without blinding people who passes by.
